Calverton Lodge near Lydenburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa offers luxury self catering, fully serviced lodges, nestled in the mountains of the Mpumalanga Escarpment. Calverton is a premier retreat for the discerning fly fisherman, nestled in the hills southeast of Lydenburg, on the Alex se Loop stream and just three and a half hours from Johannesburg.Calverton offers two premier self catering, fully serviced lodges Glentana and Sherbrook. Calverton was named by the developer after farms in the Free State.Both Lodges, furnished in tasteful elegance, are stylish, comfortable and the ultimate self catering getaway. Warm African colours, original paintings / sketches and well selected African artifacts gives each lodge its own special ambience which is further enhanced by an open fire place in the living area.Glentana is situated next to a small side stream and Sherbrook close to the river. Each lodge has 4 double en-suite bedrooms. Two of the bathrooms have a shower and bath and the other two bath only. Glentana has 2 x king size beds, 2 x 3/4 beds and 1 x queen size bed. Sherbrook has 2 x king size beds, 2 x 3/4 beds and 1 x queen size bed. Cots are not available but we can provide up to 2 single beds with bedding for each lodge.The kitchens are well equipped and have a microwave and electric oven. Glentana has a 380 l fridge and a small deepfreeze in the trout room and Sherbrook a 360 l fridge/freezer in the kitchen and a smaller fridge/freezer in the trout room.There is a weber for braai facilities with charcoal and firelighters being supplied as well as a gas skottel, all linen, hair driers in each room, cleaning materials, soap, shampoo, firewood etc. In short, all one needs to bring is your food and refreshments.FLY FISHING:Where the browns breed and the rainbow feed - simplicity is our other motto!We encourage barbless fly fishing and ask that any brown trout caught are returned to the waters. The rainbow trout are stocked but the browns have been breeding naturally in the river, Alex se Loop, since the 1920s when it was first stocked by Mr Braun.There are 18 weirs, 3 dams and natural pools in the river, available for the avid fisherman.We do not charge a rod fee and no limit is put on catch and release. Fish caught and kept are charged at R65.00/kg.Coaching on the art of fly fishing can be arranged!
