Volpes started as a single retail store coupled with a mail order catalogue business. The company has expanded to include seven retail stores, a very successful online shopping platform, as well as a hospitality division. In 2000 the retail store was relocated to the William Moffett Shopping Centre in Port Elizabeth. Seven years later, in 2007, Volpes opened a second branch in Boksburg, and since then has opened at least one store every year. Today the company has stores all over Johannesburg and Pretoria, and has recently opened two new stores in October 2012 - in Bloemfontein and Witbank. Established in 1929 by Reuben Volpe, Volpes is one of the oldest and most respected family-run companies in South Africa. Based in Port Elizabeth, Volpes manufactures and distributes linens throughout southern Africa via a chain of retail stores, a website and a well-established mail order catalogue. Reuben Volpe expressed the philosophy of the company in his typically straight-forward manner, when he said: I want to be able to look customer in the eye.
