South African clothing retailer, Jay Jays, has launched an initiative to raise awareness and funds for GOLD, an organization that believes Africa’s greatest resource is its young people. Jay Jays Australia has already raised over $100 000 in support of GOLD in Australia and has since carried this initiative across to their South African retailing counterparts. The stores across the country are currently running a promotion where the proceeds from the sale of arm bands go directly to the organisation. The armbands, or friendship bands as they’re known, carry the message of ‘Pride’, ‘Respect’, ‘Strength’, ‘Love’, ‘Peace’ and ‘Hope’. Jay Jays, working with GOLD, is also currently running a competition inviting young people to design a shirt for Jay Jays, known for its unique and varied t-shirt designs.Building on the success of the stores and noting trend insights into young people, Jay Jays Clothing stores have created an initiative that is not only being favoured by trend savvy teens, but also by teens across the social spectrum who are being greatly influenced by the work of GOLD.
