Not just another pizzeria! Piza é Vino, the brainchild of the clever boys who brought Doppio Zero to life, has been Jozi’s most quirky and original pizzeria for the last couple of years. Now they are spreading their wings into Pretoria opening their first store outside of Joburg in the Waterkloof Centre. With a menu designed in conjunction with Andrea Burgener from restaurants Deluxe and Superbonbon, this super-sexy double volume space juxtaposes modern décor, informal eating and spunky service. All-traditional Italian ingredients are used in weird and wonderful ways changing uber-traditional into unusual dishes. The menu offers all day breakfasts, from the light and healthy to the totally decadent, and intriguing antipasto and pasta options for lunch and dinner. But the heart and soul of this place is the pizzas. Especially the Pizza Bianca section, pizza strewn with slices of real parma, pizza with mascarpone and truffle oil, even a breakfast pizza.... And while it might be a pizza pozzie, the one thing Piza e Vino shares with larney eateries, is obsessive attention to quality ingredients. And although most restaurants say this, this is the real deal. Only stone-ground flour is used in the base, Italian pomodoro and fior de latte cheese is imported, while their brilliant Italian pork sausage is made locally for them by a small Midlands farm raising pigs naturally with no hormones or antibiotics... you get the picture. This is pizza and then some.
